Abstract
Forty-four women with symptomatic cystocele of Grades 2 to 4 according
to Pelvic Organ Prolapse Quantitative Description were operated for the
anterior repair using transobturator polypropylene mesh in which a tape
with four 2-cm wide straps designed for optimal tissue holding force was
fixed to the obturatorforamen. Before and after the operation, the symptoms of
genital prolapse and patients’ satisfaction were evaluated by Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory
(PFDI) and Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire
(PFIQ), respectively. In patients with
urinary problems, incontinence was evaluated
by a pad-weighing test, post-void residual volume by ultrasound,
and quality of life by King’s Health Questionnaire . Median operative time was 75 minutes, and median estimated blood
loss was 36.1ml. KHQ (n=13), PFDI (n=44)
and PFIQ (n=44) were significantly improved after operation. The cure rate was 93.2 %. This study has demonstrated that repair of cystocele using this type
mesh provided favorable treatment effects.
